Made of sound

Thomas Blazukas

Tomas Blazukas is an award-winning film sound designer and virtual instruments developer based in Royal Borough of Greenwich, London, United Kingdom. The films he worked on have screened worldwide and received awards and nominations from a range of BAFTA and Oscar qualifying festivals such such as Cannes (France) , EIFF (Scotland, UK), Underwire Film Festival (UK), HollyShorts Film Festival (CA, USA), Locarno (Switzerland), Post Mortem Festival (Mexico), Gijon International Film Festival (Spain), ICFF Iran Festival (Iran), SICAF Seoul (South Korea) and many more.

Tomas is also a co-founder of Sonixinema Scoring Tools, audio software company specialising in creating virtual instruments for Kontakt.

As alumnus of National Film and Television School (MA Sound Design) and London College of Music (BA Hons Music Technology) Tomas chose to build his career as a freelance sound editor and went on to sculpt soundtracks on a range of successful independent feature length films such as avant-garde Nocturno: Ghosts of the Sea in Port directed by Alvaro Fernandez Pulpeiro and The Flood starring Lena Headey, directed by Anthony Woodley. In 2017 Tomas became BAFTA Crew member and in 2018 he has won a prestigious 65th MPSE Golden Reel Verna Fields award for his work on the short-form animation Homegrown, directed and animated by Quentin Haberham, an official selection at over 50 film festivals worldwide.

Tomas’ background has provided him with a unique set of skills. As a child he attended a music school and trained as classical pianist, and as a teenager he developed interest for other instruments, played in a variety of bands and developed interest in electronics which naturally lead him towards digital recording/producing processes where he transitioned into electronic music  and started actively producing under pseudonym Tom Noise.

Winning very first international sound design competition made Tomas realise he has discovered something new and is heading into the new direction. As his thirst for knowledge and experimentation grew he soon discovered his true calling in film sound where he was able to adopt his skills and unlock his creative potential as a sonic artist.
